A MAN who was stabbed during a robbery at Caroni on Friday has died at hospital.
Police identified the victim as Mikel Beret, 26.
Beret was stabbed in the abdomen at Kelly Village where he and another man had gone to purchase roti, police said.
A police report said that at around 12.30 p.m. on Friday, Beret was a passenger in his friend’s Nissan Tiida.
They were at Boysie Trace when two men approached the vehicle, opened the driver’s door and announce a hold-up.
The thieves took cell phones and $50 from Beret and his friend.
One of the thieves stabbed Beret on the right side of his abdomen.
The criminals threw him and his friend out of the vehicle and sped off.
The victims made their way to the Caroni Police Station and Beret was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Police later recovered the vehicle at Sieunarine Trace, Kelly Village.
Beret died at hospital on Saturday night.
An autopsy was expected to be done at the Forensic Sciences Centre to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Officers of Homicide Region III are investigating.
