ZTEKK Trinibad artiste Prince Swanny’s home sprayed with bullets
T&T dancehall artistes who continue to produce and/or are associated with the Trinibad genre, continue to find themselves as the targets of gunmen.
This is the belief of police investigators after the home of a popular artiste “prince swanny” who now resides in the US, was allegedly sprayed with bullets during the wee hours yesterday.
It was reported that over 100 spent shells of assorted calibre were recovered at the scene of the property in western Trinidad.
Acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob confirmed the incident, saying the shooting took place around 1.15 am yesterday at Francois Road, Carenage. While he could not reveal the specific number of spent shells at the scene, Jacob said it was indeed a significant number. Residents yesterday also confirmed hearing gunfire, but refused to speak otherwise.
Police officials were unable to provide any other information as they too, complained of the reluctance of those living nearby, to discuss the incident. It is not known who was present at the location during the shooting, as everyone including the artiste’s manager remained tight-lipped about the alleged incident. Trinibad is the name that artistes call dancehall in Trinidad, a derivative that was inspired by Jamaican dancehall music. Most of the songs are about the grimy side of crime, with many artistes pushing out “gunman” tunes.
Trinibad artistes have been under attack since July 2020, and recent killings underscore the brazen attempts on their lives. In May, Trinibad artiste N’Kosi “Fari Dan” Bovell, was shot dead whilst liming with friends in Tobago. In July, yet another Trinibad ariste, Carlton “CJ Dan” Campbell, was gunned down along with three others as they enjoyed a beach bath at Damien Bay, Maracas. In August, the mayhem continued as Daniel “Mad Dog” Hamilton, was killed outside his home in Moruga. In October 2021, Keenan “Craigman” Craig was shot dead by an unknown man as he went to purchase food.
In September 2021, Josiah “Siah Boss” Mc Clatchie was killed during an alleged shoot-out with police in Santa Cruz and his death followed days after Jaheim “Chucky Blanco” Joseph was shot by police during an exercise in Laventille. In July 2020, Kyle “Rebel Sixx” George was shot dead in his living room by two masked men as he played video games.
Gunmen attempted to kill Kalonji Arthur earlier this month as they opened fire on him in the parking lot of the BRIX Hotel, Cascade as he celebrated his girlfriend’s birthday.
While Arthur only sustained injuries to the legs, Bridget James was not as lucky and died at the scene.
